On 1 January 2015, the Unique Student Identifier (USI) was introduced. The USI is a number made of a series of ten (10) numbers and letters. USI numbers are created through the USI Registry which is also a repository for the storage of the study records of all students USIs. Therefore, once you create your USI and complete any form of training with a registered training organisation (RTO) the results of your training will be securely stored in the USI Registry making it easier for you to obtain your records at any time.
The USI also supports transitioning from one RTO to another more seamlessly. Your USI is with you for life and all training that you complete will be reported to the Registry on your behalf.
If you are completing national recognised training, you must have a USI. If you do not have a USI, you will not be issued with a qualification or Statement of Attainment. To eliminate this or make the process of issuing your certification much smoother, we ask that you provide your USI or apply for a USI during the enrolment process. Once your USI has been verified, along with other confirmation identification and/or eligibility, your enrolment can be finalised and you can commence your studies.
Exemptions may apply to students seeking a USI. If you wish to seek an exemption you must submit a Statutory Declaration to the Student Identifiers Registrar. Further detailed information is available at Exemptions from the USI.
You can apply for your USI by going to www.usi.gov.au. Applications will take approximately five (5) minutes to complete and you will be provided with your USI number immediately.
To apply you will need to provide suitable identification which may include:
- Australian Passport
- Non-Australian Passport (with Australian Visa)
- Australian Birth Certificate
- Australian Driver’s Licence
- Medicare Card
- Certificate of Registration by Descent
- Centrelink Concession Cards
- Citizenship Certificate
- ImmiCard
Once you have created your USI, the number will stay with you for life and your can return to the registry to view your USI and academic records at any time simply by logging in to the system. If you forget your username and password, these can be retrieved from the system.
In accordance with the regulatory requirements, all information collected and held by us is maintained in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. While ACCSC retains your USI in its secure student management system, it is not released to any person for any reason. Your USI will not appear on your qualification or any Statement of Attainment issued by ACCSC upon your graduation.
If you already have a USI and don’t remember it, you can simply login to the USI registry to retrieve. You must provide us with your USI at the time of your enrolment.
