News & Events

Dear Learners,

You may have noticed that there was no newsletter last week. It’s good to be back! We hope everyone in southeast QLD and northern NSW stayed safe during Cyclone Alfred.

Last Saturday was International Women’s Day—a day to celebrate and support women’s rights worldwide. First held on 11 March 1911, this day has evolved into a global march towards progress. International Women’s Day is dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and pushes for gender equality.

This year’s theme—Accelerate Action—emphasizes the importance of achieving gender equality sooner rather than later. According to data from the World Economic Forum, full gender parity won’t be reached until 2158, roughly five generations from now.

This year’s theme aims to speed things up. This could be by supporting groups that assist women and girls worldwide, whether they are local grassroots movements to large-scale bodies.

We must continue to take steps in our daily lives to positively impact women’s advancement. You could make an effort to challenge discrimination, question bias, celebrate success, and encourage the women and girls in your life. All activities to celebrate women are valid and valued, no matter how big or small.

Let’s keep working towards a gender-equal world together. Happy Friday!
